Derry Girls Season 3 Premiere Date Finally Confirmed (It’s Very Soon)
After a long wait, the Derry Girls season 3 release date is finally set, and it's sooner than many fans were expecting. Derry Girls, created by Lisa McGee, tells the story of five young teenagers and the hilarious misadventures they have while growing up in Derry, Northern Ireland in the '90s, during the Troubles. The series is loosely based on the real life experiences of McGee, and stars Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Louisa Harland, Nicola Coughlan, Jamie-Lee O'Donnell, and Dylan Llewellyn. Derry Girl first began airing back in 2018 on Channel 4 in the U.K. and as a Netflix original in North America. The series became a hit almost immediately, and Derry Girls season 2 was released only a year later.
Since season 2 ended on a particularly heartwarming note, fans of Derry Girls have been desperate to find out what will happen next for their favorite characters. Unfortunately, the show was one of the many productions that found itself repeatedly hindered by the COVID-19 pandemic. Production on Derry Girls season 3 was pushed back several times, resulting in nearly three years elapsing since the season 2 release. However, fans were delighted a few weeks ago when a new Derry Girls season 3 trailer was finally released, and while it did not specify a release date, it did confirm that the series would indeed be making a return.
Now, fans will be excited to know that Channel 4 has finally revealed the Derry Girls season 3 premiere date, and according to RadioTimes, it's right around the corner. It has been revealed that Derry Girls' new season will begin airing in just under two weeks, on April 12. The season 3 release date being so soon is certainly a surprise, given that it's been revealed so soon after a trailer that offered no such hint. However, the wait being so short is certainly a relief for fans.
With that said, the news that the Derry Girls season 3 release is right around the corner may be bittersweet for some, as it has also been revealed that this will be the show's final season. An official release date does mean that fans have reached the beginning of the end. However, it does seem that she show will be going out with a bang. The cast has been quite open about their own high expectations of Derry Girls' final season, with mentions of it being on a more epic scale than any that has come before it.
With that in mind, it certainly seems that fans are in for something truly special before they have to finally say goodbye to Erin, Orla, Claire, Michelle, and James.
