RDR2 Players Are Still Discovering Impressive Weapon Details
While the beloved Wild West adventure launched back in 2018, Red Dead Redemption 2 fans continue to discover brand-new details throughout its immersive open world. Rockstar Games' beloved gunslinger simulator is known for its emotional storyline and highly-detailed recreation of the American frontier. Clever Red Dead Redemption 2 details make the open-world adventure truly immersive, with gamers still finding small period-accurate details years after launch.
Serving as a prequel to the first game, Red Dead Redemption 2 tells the story of Arthur Morgan and the outlaw Van der Linde gang. As the posse flees from the law and finds itself in increasingly desperate situations, RDR2 takes players on a tour of several fictional regions like New Hanover, Lemoyne and West Elizabeth. The game is known for its in-depth gameplay systems, with guns appearing and behaving realistically while wild animals can be hunted in a truly immersive manner. These details also enhance the game's story, with custom Red Dead Redemption 2 guns naturally giving players information about their respective owners.
Red Dead Redemption 2 fan and Reddit user Ebbedebbe recently discovered a brand-new detail in Rockstar Games' Western epic. By exploring a tomb north of Annesburg, RDR2 players are able to acquire a unique Viking Hatchet for use as a melee or throwing weapon. The ancient item is unique among RDR2's arsenal, and Ebbedebbe recently noticed that the in-game item has the exact same engravings as a historical axe from around 970. "The Man With The Fine Axe" is currently featured in the National Museum of Denmark, and the ceremonial weapon from Mammen clearly inspired RDR2's Viking Hatchet.
While Red Dead Redemption 2's various weapons are incredibly detailed, the open world itself also includes some truly breathtaking immersive mechanics. For example, bodies decompose in Red Dead Redemption 2 should players leave them out in the wilderness after a firefight. Player character Arthur Morgan often leaves a bloodbath in his wake, but returning to the site of a battle will often lead to players discovering skeletons instead of bodies. These corpses impressively decompose in real time, so players who wait around can see their foes horrifically transform into mangled flesh and then a mere pile of bones.
In crafting the world of Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar Games spared no expense in the areas of detail and immersion. Each weapon is a realistic reflection of true Wild West staples, and the Viking Hatchet was directly inspired by an actual axe from around 970. These details may seem small, but they go a long way towards making RDR2 an exceptionally immersive experience.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Google Stadia.
