Hulk, Venom & More Battle Fortnite Heroes in Official Crossover Art
In anticipation of the upcoming crossover between Fortnite and Marvel Comics, several variant covers for the Fortnite X Marvel: Zero War limited series will be released throughout the month of May. These special covers feature iconic Marvel characters such as Captain Marvel, Venom, and Ghost Rider alongside some familiar faces for Fortnite players like Cuddle Team Leader, Raider, and Blaze.
The limited series Fortnite X Marvel: Zero War will kick off as a summer event in June with its premiere issue. Heroes like Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Iron Man drop onto Fortnite Island in a fight for their lives. Spanning five issues, the crossover event will be written by a duo comprised of Spider-Geddon writer Christos Gage alongside Epic Games’ Chief Creative Officer Donald Mustard. The artist illustrating all the chaos on Fortnite Island will be Sergio Davíla, an artist on Captain Marvel.
Eight variant covers featuring iconic characters crossing over with Fortnite figures that will be released throughout the month of May were unveiled on the official Marvel Comics website. Two other variants were also mentioned but not revealed visually. There will be two Fortnite variants on May 4: Captain Marvel #38 will feature Captain Marvel herself in a showdown with Dark Bomber, depicted by Phil Noto; and Venom #8 will feature the symbiote taking on Big Mouth, illustrated by Paco Medina. The next week on May 11, three variants will drop into comic book stores: Captain America: Symbol of Truth #1 sees Sam Wilson as Captain America fighting Omega as illustrated by Salvador Larroca; Iron Man #20 surprisingly doesn't feature the man of iron but instead shows Hellcat going up against Lynx by David Baldeón; and Spider-Man 2099: Exodus #1 with the titular spider facing off against Drifter by Crees Lee (although this cover was not revealed in the press release).
The next three variants being released on May 18 includes Captain Carter #3 with Peggy Carter up against the Cuddle Team Leader from artist Todd Nauck; Iron Fist #4 with the new person donning the Iron Fist mantle fighting Fade by Mike McKone; and Silk #5 featuring Silk not so much fighting but posing alongside Blaze. The final two variants will be released on May 25: Ghost Rider #4 shows a fight between Ghost Rider and Raider illustrated by Carlos Gomez (but not shown in the press release); and the New Fantastic Four #1 shows Joe Fixit and Ripley on the Battle Bus illustrated by Will Sliney. If only some of these interactions and fights happened within the actual pages of the comics themselves.
The announcement of Fortnite X Marvel: Zero War was not much of a surprise considering the success of the previous one-shot dabbling in the world of Fortnite, Fortnite X Marvel - Nexus War: Thor, which was written by Donny Cates (Thor) with artwork by Greg Land (The Uncanny X-Men). That Fortnite - Marvel crossover is notably canon in the Marvel universe. Twenty-five Marvel characters even appeared in the actual Fortnite video game. While the upcoming Fortnite X Marvel: Zero War limited series will not begin until June, fans can enjoy these Fortnite variant covers from Marvel Comics throughout the month of May in the meantime.
