Marvel's Avengers' Workaround For PS5 Crashes Angers Players
A workaround for PS5 crashes for Marvel's Avengers has been offered up by the developer, however, it will reset the game's main campaign progress, which is a decision that has not been well received by players. The crashes were somewhat ironically caused by a quality-of-life improvement update implemented earlier this month.
Marvel's Avengers recently saw a fix implemented to improve various aspects of the game. The V2.3 patch added a new mission chain led by Nick Fury, removed outdated quests, and reworked the War Table where players can access missions and events, making it more streamlined for players. A Quickmatch feature was also added to the War Table, allowing for a smoother matchmaking process. Ironically, this fix seemed to bring with it a new set of issues that made the game experience even worse for many, as it resulted in Marvel's Avengers crashing on PS5.
Responding to the PS5 crashes, Marvel's Avengers on Twitter has shared a temporary workaround - but it means players will lose their campaign progress. The developer noted that the team believes they have identified and are testing a fix, but suggested that PS5 players reset their story should they wish to avoid game crashes. It's worth noting the fix has been described as working for "some players," but not all. Understandably, this has not been well received by fans, with comments from players including MediumMongul deeming it "completely unacceptable." Others even stated that Crystal Dynamics should just "pull the plug" on the Marvel title following the controversy.
Despite a rocky launch for the game, the main thing players could agree was positive for Marvel's Avengers was its Avengers Assemble campaign, which follows Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel as she discovers her powers and tries to reassemble the broken Avengers to take down the impending threat of A.I.M. Although the initial campaign is relatively short, further characters and stories were added later in additional maps, and fans could agree that it was a good take on the Marvel characters. Resetting their campaign progress to fix PS5 crashes has therefore been a blow for many players.
These issues and controversial workarounds are the latest in a long line of problems surrounding Marvel's Avengers. The game still has a dedicated fanbase - albeit not one as large as predicted for a Marvel property - and Crystal Dynamics doesn't appear to be giving up on it yet. While it's not yet clear when a permanent fix for the PS5 game crashes will be deployed, players will hopefully get to experience the smoother Marvel's Avengers gameplay experience they were initially promised from the V2.3 patch.
