Edu working overtime to snatch significant free agent transfer with double Arsenal promise
Arsenal are ready to put all their eggs into the Paulo Dybala transfer this summer amid claims they are making two promises in an attempt to lure him to Emirates Stadium.
The Juventus star is at something of a career crossroads as he prepares to depart the Old Lady this summer. Following months of talks, Dybala has failed to agree a new deal with senior figures at Juventus now confirming he will leave on a free. And having scored 113 goals in 283 appearances for Juve, it’s easy to see why he’s a man in demand.
And with Arsenal seeking at least one new striker this summer, it’s easy to see why he’s a name that appeals to Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta’s side waved farewell to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January; the former club captain signing for Barcelona. He is likely to be joined out the exit door by Eddie Nketiah and, quite possibly Alexandre Lacazette. Efforts though are being made to tie Lacazette to a new contract at Emirates Stadium.
Should Lacazette stay, then Arsenal will only look to sign one new striker this summer. But if he leaves, then two targetmen will be on their radar.
Financially speaking, it makes far more sense for Arsenal to keep Lacazette.
Either way, it seems Arsenal are casting their net far and wide to bring in a new forward.
Their top target is reportedly Benfica hot-shot Darwin Nunez. The 22-year-old is emerging as one of European football’s elite strikers. Indeed, the Uruguayan has plundered in 24 goals in 31 appearances this season.
That form has seen him targeted by a number of Premier League sides, with Newcastle and Manchester United also among his suitors.
However, Nunez comes with a huge £68m price tag – a fee which appears to be putting Arsenal off.
Paulo Dybala emerges as No 1 Arsenal target
Instead, Tuttosport claims Edu is going all out to bring Dybala to Emirates Stadium.
And Tuttosport claims it is Arsenal who are making the strongest push to sign him amid claims of a firm double promise.
As such, Edu is seemingly preparing to offer Dybala a three-year deal at Emirates Stadium. That will take the 28-year-old beyond his 31st birthday.
Arsenal are also seemingly willing to match the £118,000 a week wages the Argentine earns at Juventus.
Furthermore, and with Arsenal having an obvious vacancy in their attack, they appear to offer Dybala guaranteed first-team football.
Unlike fellow suitors Manchester City, Arsenal can offer Dybala with more of a guarantee of regular football.
And while they cannot yet be considered as major trophy contenders, they should at least be able to offer Champions League football.
That means, for now, they also appear ahead of another rival in Tottenham in their efforts to sign him.
Should Dybala sign on a free, Arsenal will use the money to bolster other areas of their side.
Arteta is also casting his eyes on a new midfielder and reports on Wednesday suggested a big name was in their sights.
