Didn’t Expect It To Be That Extreme – Leeds United Star On Fan Backing
Koch made the move from Freiburg to Leeds in the summer of 2020 and his spell for the Whites has been marred by injury.
Nonetheless, the centre-back has started eleven games in the Premier League for the Whites this season and made an appearance in their last five matches.
Koch revealed that he got to know about the Leeds’ supporters fondness for the club from the first day he arrived.
The centre-back added that he has more interactions with the fans outside of the stadium in Leeds than at his previous club, German side Freiburg.
Speaking to German broadcaster SWR, Koch said: “From the first day I was here, you realise people are crazy about Leeds United and crazy about football.
“You only have this club around here.
“When I arrived here and walked around the city a bit – of course, Leeds is different to Freiburg – I get talked to more often than when I was in Freiburg.
“I didn’t expect it to be so extreme at the beginning.”
Koch had to withdraw from the Germany squad due to illness over the international break and he has already missed games due to it for Leeds this term.
The centre-back has had his doubters among the Whites fanbase but he will be hoping that he is able to play a part in ensuring the Whites stay up this season.
