‘Won’t have any regrets’ – Pundit makes prediction about Kane staying at Spurs
Darren Bent has claimed that Harry Kane might spend the rest of his career at Tottenham Hotspur unless someone is prepared to pay a ‘crazy’ fee to sign the striker.
Kane reportedly tried to force through a move to Manchester City last summer (The Times) but Tottenham managed to hold firm and hang on to their prized asset.
Predictably, the speculation over the striker’s future has re-emerged ahead of this summer’s transfer window, with a move to the other side of Manchester being mooted as a possibility.
The Athletic have revealed that Man Utd are set to prioritise a move for the England captain this summer irrespective of who replaces Ralf Rangnick at the helm.
The report added that Spurs are likely to demand upwards of £100m for the 28-year-old in the summer and that the striker’s future could depend on whether Antonio Conte stays and how the Lilywhites finish their campaign.
Bent has suggested that Kane might be content with winning the FA Cup or the Carabao Cup with Spurs, given that the club are not in a position to compete for the Premier League title.
The former Tottenham striker told Premier League Productions (28/03/22 at 5:20 pm) about Kane: “He has been there since he was a kid. I guess you can look at ‘what trophies is he going to win at Spurs?’
“No disrespect. He’s not going to win the Premier League anytime soon or the Champions League.
“Then you start looking at domestic competitions. If he’s going to win the FA Cup or League Cup, and that’s enough for him at Tottenham, then who are we to question and say ‘that’s not enough’. Only he will know.
“For him, unless it’s a crazy bid of £150 million. I can see him being at Spurs for the rest of his career, if that’s the case, then he won’t have any regrets over that.”
Spurs Web Opinion
While I think Kane would prefer to win one Premier League title at Spurs over three of four at a club like City, to assume that the striker would be content with not winning the title at all is naive.
You do not get to the level that the 28-year-old has got to without being extremely ambitious and driven. The fact that he pushed for a move last summer suggests that he would jump ship if he feels Spurs do not look capable of competing for major honours.
