Two-word response from Roy Keane after Tottenham ‘soft spot’ question put to Man Utd legend
Manchester United legend Roy Keane has revealed that he does have a soft spot for Tottenham despite his constant criticism of the club down the years.
The Sky Sports and ITV Sport pundit was part of United team that regularly put the north London side to the sword during the Sir Alex Ferguson era, which in turn coined the famous phrase ‘Lads, it’s Tottenham’ from the legendary Red Devils boss.
Keane has often delivered a damning verdict on Tottenham as a whole. However, when asked about their top-four chances, after a return to form under Antonio Conte, the former Nottingham Forest star revealed his true colours.
When discussing who will finish in the Champions League places, one Spurs fan put it to the tough-talking Keane that he does have a ‘soft spot’ for Conte’s men.
“That fourth spot is available, isn’t it,” Keane told The Overlap. “The way Kane and Son are playing. Spurs have almost snuck up there.
“If Tottenham can finish fourth, you can look at it and say ‘it’s been a great season”.
On his like for Spurs, he added: “I do. But you judge it at the end of the season. This is the vital part of the season. Yeah, Spurs was my team as a kid. Bizarrely.”
Battle for fourth hots up
Arsenal are currently leading the way to finish fourth. They only have a three-point lead over their north London rivals, although the Gunners do have a game in hand.
The two clubs also have the small matter of a derby clash still to play after it was postponed back in January.
The rearranged fixture is yet to have a new date after the Gunners asked for a postponement due to Covid, injury, suspension and AFCON call-ups.
Manchester United and West Ham are also in the mix for the top four, while Wolves have an outside chance of catching their rivals.
This weekend could be a big one in the race for the final Champions League spot.
United host Leicester, while West Ham take on struggling Everton, Tottenham have a home game against Newcastle and Arsenal head to Crystal Palace.
