Hulk's New Master Makes Him A Greater Threat Than Ever Before
Warning! Spoilers for Hulk #5 by Marvel Comics
Bruce Banner has lost control of the Hulk like never before, as the Marvel Comics hero is being taken over by someone much darker. In Hulk #5, a threat reveals itself to Banner, as it pushes him out of control of the Engine Room while referring to him as their son. Is Brian Banner back? Has Titan arrived? No matter who it is, the takeover is terrible news for Bruce and the rest of the Marvel Universe.
In the newest Hulk series from Marvel Comics, Bruce Banner controls the Jade Giant in an all-new way as he operates his monstrous form inside his psyche. In addition, the Hulk has been augmented with tech upgrades, while Banner can increase his rage via the Engine Room. Inside the Engine Room, a version of the Hulk takes on a series of escalating threats and opponents, with each victory powering the real Hulk's strength. Unfortunately, however, Banner just lost control of Starship Hulk as a darker threat, perhaps Titan or Brian Banner, is taking over.
In Hulk #5 by Donny Cates, Ryan Ottley, Cliff Rathburn, Frank Martin, and VC's Cory Petit, Bruce Banner increases his rage inside the Engine Room, leading the Hulk to take down the Gamma-powered Peter Parker. However, inside the Hulk's psyche, Betsy Ross, who reveals she's not real to Bruce, launches an attack on him. Ross pushes the Engine Room threats from stage six to stage nine while ejecting Bruce and becoming the Hulk's new pilot. Bizarrely, Ross refers to Bruce as her son, suggesting Brian Banner or the deadliest Hulk ever Titan (or both) has taken control.
The new threat pushes Hulk to his maximum rage level as Banner loses control. Ultimately, the new pilot of Starship Hulk wants to see the Jade Giant take his rage to an all-new level. The question remains, who's behind the takeover? Referring to Bruce as their "son" suggests the hero's evil father might have returned. However, it's also possible the new villain Titan, who will debut in the next issue, has taken charge.
Regardless of who is now controlling the Hulk, Bruce Banner losing control is the worst-case scenario for the troubled hero. Whether it's Brian Banner, Titan, or someone other threat behind the wheel of the Hulk, the fact they're pushing the Hulk's rage to its maximum level means they want chaos and destruction. Can Banner somehow regain control, or is the Hulk about to unleash his darkest attack on the Marvel Universe yet? Readers will find out more soon, as Hulk #5 is in comic book stores now.
