THE thin plastic “collars” that ring soda cans in a six-pack can seem like a big hassle, which is why many people remove the packaging before putting soda away.

But it seems that the “normal” way of storing soda is actually the wrong method – there’s a clever design feature in the plastic rings that makes storing soda cans so easy.

By ‘folding’ the six-pack, he can slide the drinks into the fridge effortlessly[/caption]

In a video that shocked thousands of viewers, Sam Howell showed the method he uses to restock his mini-fridge with drinks.

“I learned a thing!” he said at the beginning of the clip.

“I was gonna put my six-pack in my fridge, like I do all the time,” Howell began, showing off canned drinks held together by plastic rings.

Then, instead of removing the plastic to put away the beverages, he simply tilted the cans toward each other, folding the row of plastic rings in half.

“I’ve been taking them out of the things like an idiot when you can actually just do this,” he explained.

By keeping the cans in their plastic collars, Howell was able to slide the cans onto the shelf, organizing them neatly with no effort.

Some commenters were amazed at Howell’s ingenuity – and the fact they never knew about the trick before.

“I’m going to pretend I’ve always known this,” one viewer confessed.

“OMG! Never crossed my mind,” another excited person wrote.

Other people criticized Howell’s technique, pointing out that the cans would be difficult to access later.

“But then you gotta rip one off,” a viewer wrote. “It gets messy once the first two are gone.”

“Gotta take the whole thing out every time you want one though,” another person theorized. “It’s better to do it the way you were doing it the whole time.”

In response, Howell decided to demonstrate his method on camera with a follow-up video. At first, it worked flawlessly.

He reached in and grabbed cans from the fridge, one by one. Lifting them up instantly released them from the plastic ring.

But once he reached the final third of the six-pack, there weren’t enough cans to maintain tension in the plastic.

He pulled out the last two cans and pulled them apart manually.

“Whoever commented this, you are right – five and six come out at the same time,” Howell said.
