Disney World Images Reveal First Look Inside Guardians of the Galaxy Ride
Newly released images offer a first look inside Walt Disney World’s Guardians of the Galaxy ride Cosmic Rewind. The attraction intends to showcase the similarities and differences between the fictional planet of Xandar and Earth’s galaxies. Xandar serves an important role in the Marvel universe. It acts as a base for the galaxy-protecting officers in the Nova Corps. With Nova joining the MCU in an upcoming cosmic movie or show, it's importance is likely to become clearer. Still, Xandar was already the initial meeting point for four of the main characters in Guardians of the Galaxy.
The extraterrestrial escapade will feature the main cast of characters from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, including Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldaña as Gamora, and Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer. According to the official description of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind released by Disney, after guests start their intergalactic journey by touring the Galaxarium and discovering the wonders of Xandar, the ride will take a turn, transporting park-goers on an exciting quest where they are called to action to help the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Disney D23, the official Disney fan club, shared photos of the roller coaster attraction on Twitter, which will be the first Marvel character-inspired ride at the Florida theme park and comes after the announcement that Disney World's EPCOT Experience is officially closing. The tweet describes the “Galaxarium” which will feature “planets, stars, and other wonders that connect Earth and Xandar.” The photos reveal a glimpse into the out-of-this-world attraction, which includes seemingly realistic galactic skyscapes from the Marvel universe. The attraction, which will be appropriate for guests of all ages, is the first-ever reverse launch on a Disney roller coaster and is one of the longest enclosed rides in the world. Segments directed by Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker James Gunn will be featured in the immersive experience as well. Gunn is currently attached to The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which will be released exclusively on Disney+ in 2022, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is reported to be the end for the Guardians team as audiences know it. That movie is set to hit theaters in May 2023.
Disney has yet to reveal the exact date for the summer opening of the Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind ride, but as they continue to share pictures of the attraction, it's clear that an announcement could be coming soon. Whether or not it coincides with the release of any Guardians-related content remains to be seen. With Gunn hard at work filming both Vol. 3 and the holiday special, though, it's possible that as the opening of the ride draws closer, so, too, could teases of the highly anticipated movie.
