The upcoming Warhammer 40K: Darktide has received yet another delay. The four-player co-op shooter is now targeting a release in September of 2022.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide developer Fatshark has announced the game's official release date, and it will be launching later than expected. Darktide is the successor to Fatshark's well-knownWarhammer 40K: Vermintide series, and adapts its 4-player co-op formula into a first-person shooter. The game was first unveiled in 2020, only a few months into the worldwide spread of COVID-19. As a result, most of its development has taken place during the pandemic, which has naturally slowed the production pipeline and led to prior delays in the past.
In a trailer posted to its social media channels, Fatshark revealed a new launch date for Darktide: September 13, 2022. This confirms that the game has been delayed again, following a previous delay that slated Darktide for a Spring 2022 release window. Fatshark cited the need to improve the game's level of quality before launch as well as adjusting other systems that build on the replay value of Darktide after launch. The studio added that it will be sharing more info about Darktide "soon."
Warhammer 40K: Darktide will be coming to PC and Xbox Series X|S as a Microsoft console exclusive. As of yet, there is no word on whether or not the game will eventually arrive on other consoles. There have been very few details on Darktide over the past two years other than a previous gameplay trailer, but Fatshark did confirm that Warhammer novelist Dan Abnett will be contributing to the game. Abnett is a fan-favorite author for the series and has been writing dozens of stories in the extended universe for over 20 years, so hopefully his help will bring Warhammer 40K: Darktide success when it finally launches.
