One person dead after crashing into utility pole

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- One person is dead after crashing into a utility pole on the city's south side, Columbus police said.

Around 2 p.m. Thursday, Columbus police said one person was transported to Grant Medical Center in critical condition after striking a utility pole near the intersection of South High Street and West Williams Road. A power outage was also reported in the area.

At 2:33 p.m., Columbus police said the victim died.

Police advised drivers to avoid the area, as parts of the street remain blocked off.
