Bridgerton Star Hopes Lady Danbury Will Get Her Own Romance
Bridgerton star Adjoa Andoh is hoping for a Lady Danbury romance storyline. Netflix's hit historical drama returned for a season 2 on March 25. Just like the first, Bridgerton season 2 also proved to be a massive draw in its opening weekend on the streaming service. Trading in season 1's tumultuous courtship between Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page), the sophomore season focuses on another member of the titular family looking for love, Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), who finds himself caught up in an equally rowdy love triangle.
In season 1, Andoh's Lady Danbury played a prominent role as a mentor to Simon, the Duke of Hastings who famously refused to marry, on his intricate journey to winning Daphne's heart. With Page's character not returning, Lady Danbury takes the Sharma sisters under her wing after they arrive from India, and Edwina (Charithra Chandran) enters the matchmaking season intent on finding a husband under the watchful eye of her older sister, Kate (Simone Ashley). Of course, drama and romantic complications ensue when both sisters catch the Viscount's eye.
Adjoa Andoh recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to discuss all things Bridgerton season 2. During the interview, the actress revealed her aspirations for her character, saying that she's holding out hope for a Lady Danbury romance in future seasons. Read what she had to say below:
I would love Lady Danbury to have someone to love. It would be so great. And I just love her appetite. So I would love anything that allows more of that appetite to be present.
Andoh also discussed Bridgerton's historical inaccuracies during the interview, which her character is a living example of. Other than its fiery romances, Bridgerton is famous for producer Shonda Rhimes and creator Chris Van Dusen's decision to set the show in an alternate history in which people of color are integrated into high-society London. Some Black characters, such as Lady Danbury and Simon for instance, are even granted the titles doyenne and duke.
Lady Danbury has advised two of the ton's most eligible bachelors, Simon and Anthony, and two of the Queen's diamonds of the season, Daphne and Edwina, though the sharp-tongued doyenne has never expressed interest in finding a match for herself. Much about Lady Danbury's romantic history also remains unclear, most of which is likely being saved for the Queen Charlotte prequel series, which will also feature a young Lady Danbury. No one is better at playing politics on Bridgerton than Lady Danbury, so she should have no trouble finding a love match if that's what she desires.
