Bridgerton: 10 Questions Fans Have After Season 2 | Screen Rant

0

Netflix has finally dropped the anticipated season 2 of Bridgerton, and much romance and scandals ensued. The eldest Bridgerton child, Anthony, took the spotlight in season 2 as he was ready to marry and find his dutiful viscountess. Of course, many Bridgerton fans have binged every episode and are already awaiting the third season.

While the first season remained true to the book, many fans noticed that the sophomore season heavily swayed from the source material. Also, season  2 ended with much heartbreak and unresolved matters for several characters like Penelope Featherington and Eloise Bridgerton. Their bleak ending leaves questions about their future, given Netflix renewed the series for a third and fourth season.

Fans of the book series know each installment follows the perspective of eight Bridgerton children. However, the series expanded the material from the books by adding more substance to each Bridgerton character arc, even before their expected seasons.

So far, the first two seasons have developed Bridgerton children like Colin and Eloise, and even the latest season increased the screen time for the second-born Bridgerton son, Benedict. However, the seasons have yet to delve into the deposition of younger Bridgerton characters like Francesca, Gregory, and Hyacinth. Season 3 could be the perfect time to increase their screen time now that Daphne and Anthony will take a backseat for future seasons.

Many fans noticed that the third youngest Bridgerton child was absent in season 2. Francesca appears in the first few episodes during Eloise's debut, but then she falls off the face of the Earth. What makes her absence even more astonishing is that she remains missing in the penultimate episode at her mother's ball, in which Gregory and Hyacinth were present.

There is a good reason for the character's disappearance since the actress, Ruby Stokes, had scheduling conflicts with another Netflix show, Lockwood & Co. However, to fill in this hole, at least a family member should have mentioned the excuse for her absence. Unfortunately, none of the family members addressed it, which leaves many fans scratching their heads at her sudden vanishing.

Unlike his older brother, who must uphold his duty as the viscount, Benedict is the second-born Bridgerton child who has experienced much freedom to pursue his own goals. Of course, he grew to love art in hopes of becoming an accomplished artist, which season 2 explored.

Unfortunately, even that freedom was short-lived after learning about his brother buying his admission to art school and the mere mention of his responsibilities as the second-eldest son. The season ended with him dropping out of school, and Benedict fans wonder what will happen to the beloved character. Could he regain his passion for art again? Given his increased screen time and importance this season, fans suspect his story could be next, following the chronology of the books, but even this speculation comes with a grain of salt.

Sadly, Benedict is not the only Bridgerton child to end with disappointment and heartbreak this season. Eloise became an instant favorite character who challenged the status quo about a women's role in society and championed women's rights in a period when women struggled to have one.

Eloise made her debut this season, but that did not stop her from pursuing her interest in questioning tradition and women's rights. Unfortunately, she faced unfair scrutiny after Lady Whistledown threw her under the bus for meeting someone outside her class. However, to make matters worse, Eloise learned that her own best friend is Lady Whistledown which left her outraged. Now, fans wonder what Eloise will do with this information, such as whether she can use this secret as collateral for something in the future.

Eloise ending her friendship with Penelope is perhaps the most heartbreaking moment this season. Of course, Eloise has every right to be upset with Penelope, considering she has scrutinized her family in scandals several times, and Eloise's scandal crossed that limit.

Of course, this revelation is different from the books, so it leaves questions about the girls' friendship in the future. The last thing fans want is their break-up to be long-term, and many hope that there is some form of reconciliation. But how long will that take?

When the series is not following the Bridgerton family, it follows the across-the-door neighbor, the Featheringtons. With the death of Baron Featherington, the ladies awaited the new Baron Featherington, Jack. Of course, fans learned about the new character who sailed across America and intended to deceive investors with his fraudulent business.

Although Portia managed to send Jack away, which would protect her and her girls' reputation, some fans question if this is the last of Jack Featherington. If not, what more could happen with the Featheringtons' drama? Of course, Jack was the least favorite new character introduced after season 1, so some fans hope that his story has concluded.

Edwina did not find her prince charming, but not all is a lost cause for her search for love. Queen Charlotte wanted this season's diamond to court her nephew, Prince Friedrich of Prussia.

Of course, this moment is not in the books, which only shows some of the creative changes from the pages. However, the mention of Prince Friedrich has some wondering if the handsome prince will mark his return in season 3 after he failed to secure a marriage with Daphne. Perhaps, season 2 is not the end of Edwina's story but her beginning.

Unlike Eloise, who took a break from finding Lady Whistledown, Queen Charlotte was still anxious to track down their identity. This time, she brought up her game. Queen Charlotte was clever in her search and was pretty close to identifying her. Of course, she caught the wrong person.

However, the question remains whether Queen Charlotte still has the energy to restart the investigation of Lady Whistledown. Also, book fans know that the search for Lady Whistledown plays a part in one of Bridgerton's stories, particularly Colin's, so hopefully, her ambitions continue in season 3.

Season 2 explored the cute, friendly relationship between Colin and Penelope. The two became close as Colin remained in touch with Penelope during his trip. Although the relationship between Colin and Penelope evolved in each episode, it took a turn by the finale when Colin expressed his lack of interest in Penelope, which she overheard.

After losing her friendship with Eloise and hearing the shocking comments from Colin, Penelope is at her lowest point. However, the season 2 finale may have set up her storyline for the third season, including her tarnished friendship with Eloise and her secret crush on Colin. Perhaps, her story may have hinted whose story could be central in season 3.

Book fans know that each book dedicates a story to one of the Bridgerton children, so there is now a mystery of which child will lead season 3. So far, the series has followed the chronological sequence from the book, with Daphne and then Anthony. So, if the series continues to follow the books, season 3 will follow An Offer from a Gentlemen, which is Benedict Bridgerton's story.

However, this assumption may not be the case after a recent interview with the show's producer. Shonda Rhimes teased that the series may go out of order, possibly skipping over Benedict's story for now. These speculations seem plausible, given the developments of Colin and Eloise's ending in season 2. For the time being, fans will have to wait until they learn whose story is next.
