Amir Khan Muttaqi meets Sergey Lavrov and Amir Abdollahian in China
The meeting of Foreign Ministers of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries began in Tunxi of China’s Anhui province on Thursday, March 31, 2022, wherein Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi met with Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Iran’s Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian.
During the meeting, Iran’s Foreign Minister said his country is currently hosting nearly five million Afghan refugees most of whom fled the country after the Taliban takeover in August last year.
Amir Abdollahian asked donor countries not to forget Afghan refugees currently living in Iran.
Meanwhile, Sergey Lavrov has also met other Foreign Ministers alongside Amir Khan Muttaqi in China.
On Wednesday, Amir Khan Muttaqi met with Pakistan’s FM Shah Mahmood Qureshi and China’s FM Wang Yi.
The three Foreign Ministers discussed regional economic connectivity and transit between the three countries whereas Amir Khan Muttai showed interest in China’s Built and Road Initiative, BRI.
China has invited Foreign Ministers of Pakistan, Iran, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan while those of Qatar and Indonesia are attending the meeting as guests.
Further, the Troika Plus meeting is also supposed to take place in China in Afghanistan.
