How The MCU's Vulture Ends Up In Morbius' Universe | Screen Rant
Warning: Contains spoilers for Morbius.
How does the MCU’s Vulture end up in the Morbius universe? Ever since the MCU started exploring the concept of the multiverse, a constant topic of discussion has been whether or not characters from other franchises will crossover, and as shown in Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it’s definitely something that can happen. Morbius is the latest Marvel movie to do a crossover, and this is how it happened.
Ever since the first trailer for Morbius was released, one of the biggest topics of discussion has centered around Michael Keaton’s Vulture appearing in the movie. The Sony movies had always taken place in a separate continuity to the MCU, so once it was confirmed that Keaton was, in fact, playing the Vulture, there was much talk about how that could work. Speculation increased further when Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: No Way Home explicitly connected the Sony movies to the MCU; at that point, it was clear that crossovers could definitely happen, so the only thing left to do was wait and see how the latest crossover would play out in Morbius.
With Sony Pictures' Morbius officially released, the details of how the Vulture ended up in Morbius are now fully known. The first post-credits scene flashes back to the end of No Way Home, where Doctor Strange is using his magic to close the rift in the multiverse. The scene then cuts to Vulture suddenly appearing inside of a jail cell, making it clear that the spell Strange cast somehow sent Vulture into the Morbius universe; this was also confirmed in a recent interview with director Daniel Espinosa.
The odd thing about how Vulture ended up in the Morbius universe is how inconsistent it is with No Way Home. In No Way Home, it was made clear that Strange’s spell was sending everyone back to their native universes, as that was the only way to reverse the damage he and Peter had caused. As such, it doesn’t make sense that the Vulture, who is native to the MCU, would be sent to another universe simply because Strange was casting a spell that involved sending people to different universes.
Ideally, a future film — either an MCU film or another Sony film — will come up with an explanation for how Vulture could have ended up in the Morbius universe. It could be that there was another problem with Doctor Strange's spell that he was unaware of, or maybe the movie is presenting a red herring and Vulture was taken out of the MCU by someone or something else, with Espinosa lying to help cover it up. There are ways for the logistics of it all to be better explained, but until that happens, it’s easy to see Morbius’ post-credits scene as highly inconsistent to the point of being a plot hole.
