Will Hogwarts Legacy Release On Both Steam & Epic Games Store?

0

Portkey Games already confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy will be released on all the mainstream gaming systems (even later generation consoles), but what's still less readily known is what PC platforms the game will be sold on. Steam and the Epic Games Store are the two big digital download stores in the PC world, so there's no doubt that on Hogwarts Legacy's reported release date, it's going to be available in one of these two places, if not both. Furthermore, the latest information indicates that the game will at least be through one of the two stores.

The questions surrounding Hogwarts Legacy's PC edition and its release platforms haven't been the only mysterious aspects of the game. Indeed, for some time now the official release date has been a big question too, as the game received a postponed date in early 2021. That came as little surprise, as many studios decided it would be best to push production back due to the work complications caused by the pandemic. Regardless, it's caused some to question whether Hogwarts Legacy will even be released in 2022, although most signs remain positive (at least so far). As more confirmed information comes out that details the game's specifics, the question remains which PC platform it will be sold on - or if any period of exclusivity will come into play.

Portkey Games recently confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy will be available for purchase on Steam, and the game already has its own Steam page, leaving it ready to Wishlist. However, the game is yet to be added to Epic Games Store, and there hasn't been any indication that it ever will be. But that doesn't rule it out entirely. There's still some time left before the supposed "Holiday 2022" release date, and Portkey Games could come out and make further changes.

Although an exact date hasn't been set, Hogwarts Legacy confirmed a 2022 release date, and it looks like PC users will be able to grab it on Steam at launch. Looking at the Steam store page, however, there are still some elements that haven't been provided, such as the system requirements, which simply show "TBD". If the game truly is 8-10 months out from release, it makes sense that Portkey Games wouldn't put out the PC specs too early, as there could still be a decent amount of polishing to be done before it's ready. Regardless, having at least one confirmed platform does bring a little more excitement and anticipation to the community of players who are going to be playing Hogwarts Legacy.

The game doesn't have a store page on Epic Games Store yet, and currently, there's no official statement that it'll be offered there in the future either, but that doesn't necessarily mean that players won't be able to purchase it on the platform. Some have expressed concern over a period of possible EGS exclusivity, but current indicators make this seem highly unlikely. For the rare player that doesn't have Steam downloaded, it might be a suitable time to get it, even if only to play Hogwarts Legacy's take on Harry Potter canon.
