Samuel L. Jackson & Uma Thurman Reuniting In New Kill Room Movie
Pulp Fiction stars Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson are reuniting in the new comedic thriller movie The Kill Room. It’s been 28 years since Thurman and Jackson starred in Quentin Tarantino’s seminal 1990s crime film. But of course the two actors didn’t actually appear together on-screen in the innovatively non-linear Pulp Fiction.
Jackson’s chunk of the action in Pulp Fiction indeed mainly concerned his character Jules’ very violent activities with fellow hitman Vincent, played by John Travolta. Thurman meanwhile starred in a separate story in which Vincent memorably took her character Mia out on a date that ended with their iconic dance at a ‘50s-themed burger joint. The three main stars of Pulp Fiction in fact just reunited at the Oscars, giving Travolta and Thurman a chance to recreate their famous dance (right before handing the Best Actor Oscar to the suddenly-controversial Will Smith).
Pulp Fiction reunions indeed appear to be a running theme now as Thurman and Jackson will reportedly team up to star in the new film The Kill Room (via THR). Described as a darkly comedic crime thriller, the movie comes from writer Jonathan Jacobson and director Nicole Paone (Friendsgiving). Paone expressed her excitement about the new project in a statement, saying:
“Getting to make The Kill Room — an already incredible script — with Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson, is beyond my wildest dreams. Every moment they’re on screen, they are both enviable and eye-catching. I am eternally grateful to both of them for saying yes, and I am thrilled to bring this to life alongside Anne Clements and Yale Productions.”
The plot of Paone's The Kill Room involves an assassin becoming caught up in a scheme that somehow leads to their becoming an unwitting sensation in the art world. While Thurman of Kill Bill fame would seem a perfect person to play the hired killer in question, she in fact plays an art dealer caught up in the same scheme. Jackson too has plenty of experience playing hitmen in movies, not just in Pulp Fiction but also the recent Hitman’s Bodyguard action-comedy franchise, but this time around he actually plays the hitman’s boss. Casting of the assassin at the center of The Kill Room has in fact not yet been revealed.
Tarantino fans of course know that The Kill Room actually marks the third time Pulp Fiction’s Thurman and Jackson will be in the same film, as both also appeared in Kill Bill Vol.2, with Thurman as The Bride and Jackson as the piano player Rufus. No doubt the inclusion of Thurman and Jackson in The Kill Room will make the film extra-appealing to fans of Tarantino’s seminal ‘90s masterpiece and his later ultra-violent hitwoman opus. It sounds like the movie may have more in common with Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill than just the two stars however, as it delves into very Tarantino-esque crime movie territory, with a possibly Tarantino-like darkly comedic tone to boot. The Kill Room does not yet have a release date.
