India, WFP inked agreement over grain distribution in Afghanistan
Ministry of External Affairs of India said that the government has struck a deal with the United Nations World Food Program over distributing the next batch of wheat in Afghanistan.
The wheat batch aided by India for the Afghan people includes 10,000 metric tonnes.
Previously, WFP distributed 10,000 metric tonnes of Indian wheat in Afghanistan that were sent to the country through Pakistani ports. The agreement was made in February in the Italian capital Rome the new one is struck on Thursday, March 31, 2022.
India has pledged 50,000 tonnes of wheat to Afghanistan in a bid to address the humanitarian crisis and hunger in particular.
10,000 metric tons of wheat have reached Afghanistan and have been distributed while the second tranche of 10,000 tons is in process.
