Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie’s Van Life story inspires Law & Order show – but sleuths spot a MAJOR twist
A LAW & Order episode apparently inspired by Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie caused one online sleuth to conclude “it’s 100 percent about Gabby, with a twist.”
The episode titled “Filtered Life” is allegedly another “ripped from the headlines” story that is based on the case of 22-year-old YouTube vlogger Gabby Petito.
WFLA said the episode teases at the story of the young woman whose body was found in Wyoming in September 2021 after her fiancé Brian Laundrie returned home to Florida alone.
This took place in the middle of a cross-country van trip that the pair were documenting on social media.
Police later determined her death was a homicide with the cause of death being strangulation.
Not long after this, Brian Laundrie disappeared in Florida until his remains were discovered a month later.

Laundrie’s autopsy confirmed that he died from a self-inflicted gunshot to the head.
Returning to their “ripped from the headlines” roots, the Law and Order writers seemingly used this case as inspiration for this episode.
The description for the Law and Order episode says, “Bernard and Cosgrove investigate the disappearance of a social media star whose case takes the Internet by storm. Price and Maroun must weigh their decisions regarding the case against the wishes of the missing woman’s family.”
The show reveals that the decedent was famous for promoting “van life,” where young people go on exciting journeys in vans and document the trips on social media.

One of the characters in the episode described the fictional social media star saying, “she had a vlog – posted about life on the road. When she was on camera, everything she did sounded like so much fun.”
It’s pretty easy to spot the parallels between the show and Gabby’s tragic case.
Even though the similarities seem uncanny, one Facebook user said the episode contains “a twist” and apparently could catch anyone following Gabby’s case off guard.
Hugh Dancy, who plays Assistant District Attorney Nolan Price, spoke with WFLA about this concept of a “ripped from the headlines” story.
“The quality of being as ‘ripped from the headlines’ is they are very much adhering to that,” Dancy told WFLA.
“I think they’re using that going back and forth between the cops and the lawyers, you, having a conversations, be part of a conversation to reflect the conversations that are happening now, rather than what was happening 15 years ago.”
