Marvel Fans Dominate Spoilers Subreddit With Morbius Love & Memes

0

Marvel fans are dominating the spoilers subreddit with Morbius love and memes. In the lead-up to its release, the Jared Leto-led film has been garnering some of the worst reviews of any Marvel movie, currently sitting at an abysmal 15 percent on the Tomatometer. While its audience score is 64%, audiences don't seem too enthralled with Sony's latest Spider-Man spinoff either, as Morbius' opening night box office was half of what Venom: Let There Be Carnage's was in October 2021.

Directed by Daniel Espinosa, Morbius stars Leto as the titular Dr. Michael Morbius, a scientist who attempts to cure himself of a rare blood disease and accidentally inflicts himself with a form of transgenic vampirism without many of the weaknesses generally associated with the blood-sucking beasts. Other than Leto leading the cast as the Living Vampire, Morbius stars Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson. It has been known for quite some time that Michael Keaton reprises his role as Adrian Toomes/Vulture in the movie, sparking questions about Morbius' connection to the MCU and theories that it will set up a Sinister Six movie.

Now, in honor of April Fools' Day and Morbius' theatrical release coinciding on the same day, Marvel fans have flocked to r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers to honor the occasion. Instead of posting production leaks, spoilers, and news from future Marvel releases as it is intended for, fans have instead dominated the subreddit with various Morbius memes, including fake spoilers and news. Check out a few of the posts below:

Many of the posts poke fun at Morbius' overall reception and performance at the box office, both of which haven't been too promising so far. One post photoshops the movie's Rotten Tomatoes score to 100% from both critics and the audience, while another claims Morbius is "expected to break 3 billion at the box office in one week." Another meme has one of Marvel's most famous critics, director Martin Scorsese, admitting "I was wrong," about declaring that comic book movies are "not cinema" and often prioritize action over substance, a criticism that has been levied at Morbius.

Similar to Venom: Let There Be Carnage, much of the intrigue surrounding Morbius is related to its post-credits scene. While one post on the subreddit jokes about a Thor: Love and Thunder trailer being attached to the end of Morbius, in reality, its post-credits scene isn't quite as exciting. Many of the memes also poke fun at a certain uninspired line spoken by a character who makes a surprise appearance in the mid-credits scene. With Morbius now playing in theaters, fans can go out and experience all the movie has to offer.
