Sister Wives: Why Kody May Be Faking His Male Chauvinism For Ratings
Kody Brown of Sister Wives is not a fan favorite mainly due to his male chauvinistic attitude towards his wives. Kody has often inserted his foot into his mouth as he tried to keep control of his polygamous clan. Fans assume this attitude is who Kody is but how much of it is just for show on TV?
There is no doubt that Kody and the rest of the Browns have helped launch the conversation surrounding polygamy thanks to the popularity of Sister Wives. Sadly, over the years, the father of 18 has shown his true colors. For seasons, Kody's passion for the Mormon religion and polygamous lifestyle has spewed out of him. He has often preached the positive side of multiple wives, noting that love shouldn't be divided. However, this last season shined a spotlight on the negatives that come with the lifestyle. Aside from the extreme loneliness, Kody has made all of his wives feel poorly during their marriages, leading fans to contemplate whether or not he is truly a chauvinist or just plain selfish.
Brigham Young once preached that there was a curse on the women and not the men saying the wives should give out their "whole affections towards her husband." Kody often embodies this polygamy motto, as he has wished for his wives to live under one roof to make his life easier. Kody's own opinions have found himself in the dog house, with fans often questioning, "did he really just say that?"
One of the worst moments that Kody allowed to air on TV was when he told his first wife, Meri, that she was a "burden" to him. Fans were appalled that the patriarch felt it was necessary to televise his lack of interest in Meri, noting that he has no desire in being intimate with her anymore. At first, the quote didn't add up since Meri shared that she still longed to be close to Kody. This statement could have been one of those times when Kody was trying to garner more ratings by acting cruelly towards one of his wives.
Even though no one could tell since the two are so in love now, Kody actually "shuddered" when he first met Robyn. In an earlier season of the TLC show, Kody described his fourth wife as having "had an ick factor" when he first met her. The reason was that Robyn was divorced and had already had children with a different man. Fans feel this outrageous moment could have easily been staged, but it did make Kody look like quite the monster of a husband.
Kody found himself in hot water after calling his wives "princesses" during the recent season of Sister Wives. During a candid moment, after a fruitless discussion with his second wife, a seriously upset Kody ended up calling Janelle and Christine "two princesses giving ultimatums." Not only was the comment extremely chauvinistic, but it also brought the show a lot of viewers. Again, Kody could have easily been choosing his words to rake up the ratings, but most viewers feel he is just a clueless husband..
