The Challenge: Ashley & Safiyya Confirm Split After Daughter's Death
The Challenge's Ashley Cain and his longtime girlfriend Safiyya Voragee have confirmed their relationship is over a year after their daughter Azaylia's death. Ashley and Safiyya welcomed their adorable daughter in 2020. Two months after Azaylia's birth, she was diagnosed with leukemia. Ashley wrote via social media, "Yesterday I had to go through something no parent in the world should have to go through." He noted that he was going through a terrifying experience as he confirmed Azaylia's diagnosis. Cain, arguably one of The Challenge's most loved stars, said his little one was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of leukemia and asked for people's prayers. The devastated dad ended his update by expressing hope that Azaylia could defeat the disease.
Ashley and Safiyya remained hopeful about their daughter's health. In January 2021, she underwent a stem cell process to help prolong her life, but unfortunately, her cancer returned. Sadly despite the parents' optimistic approach towards the situation, the 8-month-old died after a six-month battle. Ashley announced his daughter's passing via social media, writing, "Rest In Paradise Princess. I will always hold you in my heart until I can hold you again in heaven." Safiyya also paid tribute to her daughter in a social media post where she called Azaylia her Angel, adding that her baby girl will always be in her heart.
After enduring a heartbreaking year, Ashley and Safiyya decided to move on separately with their lives. On Wednesday, March 30, Ashley confirmed their split via a post on his Instagram Story. In his post, he explained that they carefully thought about their decision before going ahead with it. Ashley added that their breakup was a tough decision, and they will need some time to figure out their journeys privately. Despite splitting, the reality star noted that he and Safiyya remain the closest of friends. Ashley also said that they are bonded by their powerful journey together, the eternal love they have for their daughter, and their passionate commitment to her foundation.
Safiyya, for her part, revealed that they were no longer a couple by posting a similar update on her social media. However, with the former couple confirming that they still have a good bond, they will presumably have no hard time supporting each other through the loss. Ashley, who fans want back on The Challenge, and Safiyya have several images of their late baby girl on their social media platforms. They also honored their daughter on the first anniversary of her stem cell transplant earlier this month.
Losing one's child is very difficult to deal with. Hence, one can understand why Saffiya and Ashley are still struggling to deal with Azaylia's demise a year after. The couple's decision to go their separate ways months ago was one they needed to process their daughter's loss separately. Although many fans hoped that they would come back together, their confirmation of their split means that it is unlikely to happen. However, despite going their separate ways, it is good that the former lovebirds remain close friends and supportive of each other. Their commitment to keeping their daughter's memory alive is also commendable. Hopefully, The Challenge alum and his ex-girlfriend will find the strength to pull through and move forward with their lives.
