Encanto Director Reveals New Character Birthday With Easter Egg Joke
Encanto co-director Jared Bush used a naughty Easter egg joke to reveal a detail that audiences have been waiting on for some time: Agustín's birthday. Encanto is the 50th motion picture produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios, featuring original songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The film premiered in theaters on November 24, 2021. While it was a success in theaters, it made an even huger splash when it started streaming on Disney+ on December 24. It was at this point that the ensemble song "We Don't Talk About Bruno" hit #1 on the Billboard charts, its wildfire word-of-mouth success leading to it being performed at the Oscars, even though it wasn't nominated, shortly before Encanto won Best Animated Feature.
Encanto fandom has far from burned out, even though several months have passed since its initial release on either platform. In fact, Jared Bush has been periodically sharing the birthdays of various members of the Madrigal family, to the delight of obsessive fans who are compiling as much information about the characters at the center of the film as possible. This process began when he shared the fact that lead character Mirabel was born on March 16, revealing to astrologically interested Encanto fans that the character is a Pisces.
On his official Twitter account, Encanto co-director Jared Bush shared a brand new birthday, this time revealing that Wilmer Valderrama's character Agustín, Mirabel's father, was born on June 19, making him a Gemini. However, included in that reveal was an inside joke to an Encanto Easter egg. Bush said that "it was probably a mier...coles," referencing a viral moment in the film when the character gets close to saying a swear word in Spanish, but instead says the word "Wednesday."

Jared Bush even went so far as to assuage doubts about this post coming out on April Fool's day, responding to a skeptical fan by saying "believe it." This latest birthday comes after previous announcements, which have included the characters of the triplets, Camilo, Antonio, and Bruno. So far, Luisa, Dolores, Félix, and Abuela are the only characters to have not received official birthday announcements, though they will hopefully be filled out over the coming weeks.
The way that Jared Bush has been able to spin something fun and engaging out of facts as simple as birthdays proves what longevity Encanto has. Prolonging the entertainment value of the film is certainly a good thing because an Encanto 2 has not been announced yet. Plus, even if it had been, it would still take years before it comes to theaters, so people are going to have to mine the original film for as much material as possible while they wait.
