Marvel's Avengers Players Notice Potential Improvement To Thor's Flight
Following a recent update, a Marvel's Avengers fan has noticed what could be a good sign for the game's traversal mechanics. This potential gameplay adjustment would be part of a larger, long-running initiative to bolster Marvel's Avengers via new cosmetics, side content, and general fixes.
By Square Enix's own admission, Marvel's Avengers drastically underperformed. For many gamers, the writing was on the wall before the game was even released, as early playtests and first impressions reported that, while not a complete disaster, Marvel's Avengers had a number of issues that needed to be addressed. It seems that this did not happen, however, as Avengers launched with a multitude of bugs and performance issues, on top of some controversial design choices. The game's live-service elements, predictably, did not land well with the gaming community either, with many players ultimately feeling contempt for the game. It has seen improvements since launch, though, even if it seems like some updates have hurt Marvel's Avengers more than they have helped.
One of these updates might have gotten the ball rolling on some traversal enhancements. Twitter user All-Father Media recently shared a gameplay clip of Thor flying, claiming that by pressing the jump button mid-flight, the character will exit flight with a graceful somersault. All-Father Media did note that this could potentially be a bug, drawing particular attention to the fact that developer Crystal Dynamics has not announced any changes to traversal.
The developers behind Marvel's Avengers likely want nothing more than to improve the game's public image, so their silence on this ostensible change to traversal suggests that this is unintentional. However, this doesn't necessarily mean that this new Thor animation is a glitch; it could have simply been intended for a later patch. Marvel's Avengers has seen improvements, so it certainly isn't out of the question.
Assuming that this new animation is an intentional adjustment from the development team, it could be a sign of bigger changes to come. There may be some players who see the somersault as an insignificant addition, but small visual details can often go a long way when it comes to making gameplay more satisfying (the critically acclaimed web-swinging in Marvel's Spider-Man is a good example of this). If the game can deliver similar changes to how characters like Black Widow or Hulk get around, these small details could add up. Time will tell if Crystal Dynamics is indeed making adjustments to character animations and traversal mechanics in Marvel's Avengers.
