Which Class Should You Play In Mass Effect & Why | Screen Rant

0

Though Mass Effect Legendary Edition came out last year, it's clear that there's a bit of a learning curve for new players who aren't as acquainted with the franchise and its different classes of play that will entirely affect someone's experience in the game. There are 6 main types of classes that are available to play and each one has a special ability that no other class can unlock.

All this being said, committing to a class before even knowing how to play the game is something that many new players struggle with, but thankfully, with a little help and explanation, making this choice will be so much easier. Not to mention, learning about what style of fighting a player prefers will definitely help the game feel more fun upon the first go around.

Deciding what class to play is a difficult choice and going Engineer can seem like a safe and relatively easy route, although some players might say it's the worst choice they made in Mass Effect Legendary Edition. The one ability that no other class has besides Engineer is Combat Drone.

Basically, Combat Drone is an ability that summons a drone to be present and fighting beside the Engineer at all times. Once the drone attacks an enemy, that enemy will single out the drone and not damage the Engineer, thus proving to be a great distraction. Overall, the Combat Drone ability is most useful against rocket-launching troops because it causes them to do damage to themselves. While it's not a very dynamic ability that the player can interact with, it's great for beginners.

Adept class is specifically good for players who like using crowd control to slow down or immobilize their enemies so they can kill them faster. The specific ability that is unique to Adepts is that they have Singularity, which pulls multiple enemies together and captures them. Overall, Adepts don't have to rely on their skills with weapons as much because they can just pin down their enemies.

This being said, going with the Adept class may be one of the hardest choices to make in Mass Effect because they are really weak when it comes to general shielding and armor. They must rely heavily on teammates to keep them alive in long battles and they are relatively weak compared to other classes, especially in level 1 and 2. However, their Biotic Mastery, which gives them a 20% recharge increase, means that they scale really well later in the game.

Soldiers are a classic class of shooter with no tech or biotech abilities like other classes. This means they compensate with a considerably higher health and more weapons versatility than any other class.  The one ability that is unique to Soldiers is Adrenaline Rush, which slows down surroundings by 50% and lasts for five seconds.

What this means is that if a first-person shooter with a smaller amount of ability powers is what a player might prefer, this is the class for them. There isn't much fluff to this class and there's also a lot of shielding and health for this class which makes them better suited to fight for longer durations without other immobilizing, invisibility, or high damage abilities.

Vanguards have a high-risk high-reward playstyle that is challenging for new players, but super fun for people that really understand the mechanics of the game. One of the unique abilities to Vanguards is that they have a biotech power that gap closes and does damage on impact to their enemy, while also bringing them close enough to do melee combat.

Vanguards are meant to be played up close and personal with close combat and short-range shotguns. They are going to be one of the most fun classes to play by far, but they can get frustrating to play when one is not a master at getting up close and backing away. Not to mention, they only have medium levels of armor, which means they can only hold the front line for short, high damage moments.

Sentinels are a bit of a mix in a class. They have some good adept-like and some engineering-like skills, but instead of building a drone, they create their own tech armor. Picking Sentinel class to play could be one of the best choices a player makes in Mass Effect Legendary Edition because it does have a little bit of everything so no one has to choose.

In general, Sentinels are a supporting class that often works on disabling or distracting different enemies while other teammates fight for them. They are able to work with a team extremely well and they are also one of the more versatile classes in the entire game. Overall, Sentinels are a good mix of everything and will be great for players old and new to these games.

Infiltrators are one of the higher skilled classes to play and they are the only class with tactical cloaking. They can also go invisible for certain periods of time and avoid their enemies in stealthy ways so that they can sneakily attack from behind. This means they are really good for runs of this game on insanity level difficulty and they have lots of versatility in terms of playstyle.

Infiltrators are oppositely skilled from the Vanguard class because, with their sniper and long-range capabilities, they are able to attack from a long-range, therefore taking out the back line of enemies before the easier front liners. What makes Mass Effect one of the Best BioWare video games is the fact that they have these standout classes like Infiltrators where snipers have the utility to protect themselves by going invisible.
