Following a good run of form, the predicted Tottenham team to face Newcastle United could have a familiar look, due to returning stars not being fully fit.
For the most part, the last couple of Tottenham games have seen them dominate. Indeed, in Spurs’ last five league games, there has only been one loss.
Either side of the 3-2 loss to Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur beat Everton 5-0, and then beat Brighton 2-0. Last time out, Antonio Conte’s side made a statement with their 3-1 win over West Ham.
Spurs are now fifth in the league, and are level on points with sixth-placed Man Utd after their draw on Saturday.
The side for the Newcastle game will have a familiar look. Conte has liked to stick with his players when in good form, and that should be no different this weekend.
Harry Kane – with two goals in the last three – and Heung-min Son – scorer of a brace last time out – are in form, and will be hoping for more of the same.
The presumed lack of changes is also, in part, thanks to a pair of injured players not quite being ready yet. Conte said Ryan Sessegnon and Oliver Skipp are “very very close” to being back with the team, but are not ready for this game.
Last time out – Tottenham 3-1 West Ham
Against West Ham, Hugo Lloris started in goal. The three defenders ahead of him were Cristian Romero, Eric Dier and Ben Davies.
Matt Doherty has had a resurgence under Conte, and he played at right wing-back. The other wing-back position was filled by Sergio Reguilon. Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg played between them, in midfield.
The wide forward positions were occupied by Son, who scored twice, and Dejan Kulusevski.
Hitman Kane, who has been in solid form for England over the international break, played up top.
Predicted Tottenham team against Newcastle
The team against Newcastle may be exactly the same as the one that beat West Ham last time out.
Lloris could play in net, with Romero, Dier and Davies ahead of him; though the Welshman withdrew from international duty, he is expected to be fit.
Doherty and Reguilon could take up the wide roles, with Bentancur and Hojbjerg in the middle.
The potent attacking trio of Kulusevski, Kane and Son are likely to start together.
Predicted Tottenham XI: Lloris; Romero, Dier, Davies; Doherty, Bentancur, Hojbjerg, Reguilon; Kulusevski, Kane, Son
