Amazing Mass Effect Reaper Painting Created By Player's Father
A Mass Effect fan recently commissioned a watercolor painting of the dreaded Reapers from their father, and the result captures the scourge of the Milky Way Galaxy quite well. The Reapers were the main recurring threat in the first three Mass Effect games, and Commander Shepard was tasked with gathering a rag-tag team of allies to stop these terrifying machines from completing their goal of eliminating all organic life in the universe. Throughout BioWare's beloved sci-fi RPG series, the Reapers command an army of varied followers, including Mass Effect's zombie-like Husks and insectoid Collectors, but the squid-shaped main Reaper ships have cemented their status as one of modern gaming’s most frightening and infamous villains - especially certain Reapers like the first Mass Effect’s Sovereign and Mass Effect 2’s Collector-controlling Harbinger.
Naturally, Mass Effect's Reapers have inspired plenty of impressive fan art from devoted players, ranging from drawings of the sentient warships themselves to concept art imagining what the other races of the Mass Effect franchise would look like as indoctrinated servants of the Reapers. Some Mass Effect fans have created LEGO models of the Reapers alongside other Mass Effect ships like the Citadel Fleet’s Destiny Ascension, and a Valheim player even recreated Sovereign using that particular game’s impressive building function.
Reddit user VanVulten is the latest Mass Effect fan to find inspiration in the Reapers, as they recently commissioned a watercolor painting from their artist father depicting one of the dreaded machines invading a grassy planet. They would go on to share a picture of this impressive work of art on the Mass Effect subreddit (via GameRant), where it drew plenty of praise in the comment section for skillfully capturing the menace of the Reaper as it descends upon an unsuspecting world. Some of the Mass Effect fans responding to VanVulten’s post have even asked if their father would be willing to sell copies of his Reaper painting, given how well done it is.
Gamers recently relived the terror of the Reapers thanks to Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, a current-gen remaster of the first three Mass Effect games that performed incredibly well - even surpassing publisher EA’s expectations when it launched last May. BioWare is currently working on a new installment of the Mass Effect franchise, and while the Reapers probably won’t appear in the flesh given their controversial fate at the end of Mass Effect 3, only time will what recurring effect the synthetic nightmare will have on the Milky Way Galaxy in the tentatively-titled Mass Effect 4.
In the meantime, the Mass Effect-themed watercolor painting created by VanVulten's father does a phenomenal job of illustrating the threat that the Reapers pose to the Milky Way Galaxy by depicting a once-beautiful planet being defiled by the mechanical warship bent on annihilating all organic life in the universe in lush detail. It also highlights how gaming can be shared between generations, with a parent and child working together on an impressive picture inspired by one of BioWare’s most successful RPG franchises.
