From trees to door wreaths, Easter-scaping is loved by celebs like Stacey Solomon – here’s how to do it on a budget

WITH wreaths, trees and crackers in the shops, you could think it’s Christmas, not Easter.

Our seasonal splurge was once just on chocolate eggs and hot cross buns, but Sainsbury’s is reporting a huge surge in demand for other decorations.

Sales of door wreaths have more than doubled, according to furniturebunny.co.uk, while Quail eggs, duck eggs and brown hens’ eggs are being painted in pastel hues and used as table ornaments.

These less traditional goodies are set to send Easter spending to £892million this year — up £82million on 2021.

Social media, it seems, is driving this Easter uprising and is awash with ornamental inspo, with an incredible 70million posts on Instagram and five million TikTok views for #EasterDecorating.

These tips include, napkins being folded in the shape of bunnies and front doors dressed with flowers, while cute chick figures can be found anywhere from the doorway to the dining-room table.

So what is all the fuss about?

The season is one of high religious significance. Easter Day is celebrated as the time of Jesus Christ’s resurrection and the week leading up to it is known as Holy Week.

Easter eggs are symbols of rebirth and, while many Christians will attend Sunday mass, across the globe many an egg-themed tradition takes place.

In Denmark, families decorate their homes in bright yellow and green, cover everything with feathers and eggs and gather around the table to paint eggs in different colours.

The Dutch go all-out, as well, dressing the table with tiny wooden eggs, candles and spring flowers, with a miniature tree placed as the centrepiece.

‘Crafty and creative’

To Norwegians, Easter is more important than is Christmas and all homes are decorated with chickens as a symbol of fertility. They eat chocolate eggs, too.

Though waking up to chocolate after a visit from the Easter Bunny has become one of our celebrated traditions, only recently have more of us gone dotty for decorations.

Instagram “doorscaping” queen Stacey Solomon dresses the entrance to her home several times a year according to the season, often leaving her five million followers on Instagram in awe of the extravagance and creativity.

Right now her front door is adorned with a flower arch of spring blooms, carrots for the Easter bunny and rabbit statues.

The 32-year-old mum of four sent fans crazy with her personalised Easter crackers in the shapes of bunnies, causing sales on Amazon of the “bespoke craft crackers” to rocket.

To meet demand, supermarkets and lifestyle brands are busy bulk-ordering Christmas-style decorations for Easter.

You can even pick up bunny table decorations, speckled hanging eggs and decorative chicks at the likes of H&M, Marks & Spencer and Matalan.

Shopping platform wayfair.co.uk has seen searches boom for wreaths, eggs to hang and Easter trees.

Wayfair style adviser Nadia McCowan Hill believes this is all down to the nation being keen for things to celebrate as we return to normality post-pandemic.

Instagram ‘doorscaping’ queen Stacey Solomon dresses the entrance to her home several times a year according to the season, often leaving her five million followers on Instagram in awe of the extravagance and creativity.

She says: “We’re looking ahead to brighter times — 2022 is all about marking milestones and welcoming hopeful chapters.

“Our homes provide the main setting for celebrations and, just as at Christmas, Easter is an opportunity to have some fun and transform spaces.

“That can easily be achieved with a layer of pretty pastels, spring blooms and dainty decorations.

“The Bank Holiday weekend makes it the perfect opportunity to invite family and friends over and make up for lost time.”

Fay Cartledge, florist and owner of Blossom & Ivy, says of the Easter mania: “Before, I rarely had enquiries from people looking to dress their doors. But this year it’s gone through the roof.”

In the wake of the pandemic, she adds: “The last few years have led people to become more crafty and creative when it comes to dressing their homes, and many of us have gained a greater appreciation for flowers and nature than ever before.”

But there are things to remember when creating a display.

Jess Martin, design specialist at party supplies firm Ginger Ray, says: “Colour is important. You need to pick a theme.

“Neutral and positive tones are a must for this year. Pantone’s colour of the year, Veri Peri, is a vibrant violet and something that we expect to see a lot of this summer.

“Celebratory colours that warrant feelings of happiness, as well as plants and pressed flowers, are perfect. Think muted rainbow tones and pampas grass.”
