Skyrim Mod Turns Game Into Sid Meier's Civilization | Screen Rant

0

A new mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has turned Bethesda's iconic fantasy RPG into an RTS settlement game reminiscent of popular titles like Sid Meier's Civilization. This mod, while perhaps more complex than average, is far from the only impressive piece of user-generated content brought to the 2011 game, with recent examples like the Skyrim Burger Jarl mod adding some much-welcomed comedy to the game.

In fact, there may be very few mainstream video games that have seen as many mods as Skyrim has. The base game has proven to be fertile ground for many tech-savvy players, who have used their skills to improve, update, and expand the game over the past decade. Many of these mods have served to polish the game's presentation and performance, with some even making it look like a much more modern game than it truly is. Others, however, are much more ambitious and creative, adding heaps of new unlockables, gameplay features, and even entire quest lines and regions. For instance, one particularly interesting recent mod turned Skyrim into a science-fiction game, completely shaking up its established tone and formula.

Yet another impressive Skyrim mod has arrived courtesy of a pair of modders on NexusMods (via Game Rant), this time reimagining the game as an RTS. This mod will allow players to gather resources, build structures, and defend against "random bandit raids", much like other popular strategy games like those from the Civilization series. Players can also recruit new villagers and add merchants to their societies.

As is the case with all mods, players should download at their own risk. Having said that, this looks like it could be one of the more immersive and experimental Skyrim mods, so anyone who feels passionate about this type of game will likely be excited to check it out. Especially given the variety of structures that exist in Skyrim.

There are plenty of popular mods that add new content to Skyrim, but this RTS mod seems to take things to a completely different level. Not only are new gameplay features and mechanics being added, but the game is essentially being translated to a completely different genre. RTS games have a reputation for being quite complex, so this mod has a lot to live up to. Even if it doesn't quite reach the heights of games like Sid Meier's Civilization, it is sure to be a cool novelty for The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim fans, at the very least.
