[Softball] Softball Drops Pair to BCU
Doane Softball took on Briar Cliff on Saturday afternoon in Sioux City, Iowa. The Chargers were able to win a pair of close games, 3-1 and 6-4.
The Tigers struck first in the opening game with a solo home run by Megan Elliott (SO/Simi Valley, Calif.) in the 2nd inning. The Chargers came back with two runs in the 4th inning and one in the 5th to take the lead.
Shelby Downard (JR/Marysville, Kan.) threw 6.0 innings, allowing three runs on six hits and six walks while striking out four.
In the second game, a bases loaded walk brought in the first run of the game for Briar Cliff in the 1st inning. Doane came back with a run in the 4th to tie the game and took the lead in the 5th with three runs. Jayden Young (SO/Iowa City, Iowa) tied the game with a RBI-double in the 4th inning. The Tigers took the lead in the 5th on a RBI-triple by Alicia Vint (JR/Onalaska, Wash.). Jadyn Hunt (SO/Elkhorn, Neb.) brought in a run with a ground out and Downard added a RBI-double for a 4-1 lead.
Briar Cliff answered in the bottom of the 4th with four runs to take a 6-4 lead. The go-ahead hit was a three-run home run.
Emily Haines (SO/Folsom, Calif.) threw 6.0 innings for the Tigers, allowing six runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts. Seven different players collected a hit in the game for Doane.
