[Baseball] Womack Homers as Saints Fall to Trojans
Madison, SD - In games that were moved from Aberdeen to Madison due to field conditions, the Presentation College Saints fell to The Dakota State Trojans in both games of a doubleheader. The score of game one was 7-4, while game two was 2-0. The losses drop the Saints to 4-28 on the season, while the wins improve the Trojans to 20-9. In conference play the Saints and Trojans are now 2-8 and 7-3 respectively.
Game One
After the Trojans got out to an early 2-0 lead with runs in both the first and second, the Saints got on the board with a Matthew Womack (Sophomore / Houston, TX) solo homerun in the bottom of the second. The Saints would then take a 4-2 lead in the fourth after singles from Tomas Frutos (Sophomore / Santa Paula, CA) and Francisco Avena (Junior / Pico Rivera, CA). Frutos single drove home one run, while Avena's scored two. That is how things would stay until the sixth inning when the Trojans put up five runs, taking a 7-4 lead that ultimately was the final score.
Five Saints players had multiple hits in the game, including Avena, Womack, and Frutos. The other two were Mathias Gonzalez (Sophomore / Guayaquil, Ecuador) and Trevor Ball (Sophomore / Erie, CO).
On the mound for the Saints was Peyton Rees (Sophomore / Riverton, WY). He went 5.2 innings, only giving up three hits. He allowed seven runs, with six of them being earned. Rees struck out three and walked five while being handed the loss. Cody Tomb (Sophomore / Loretto, MN) was brought in to get the last out the sixth. Gavin Lim (Sophomore / Yona, Guam) would pitch the last three innings of the game, only allowing three hits while siking out one batter.
Game Two
Game two saw a pitchers duel, with the Trojans scoring once in the second, and once in the fifth. The two teams combined for just seven hits. The two Saints hits came off of the bats of Ethan Leech (Junior / Casper, WY), a double in the second, and Cameron Snyder (Freshman / Lakewood, CA), a single in the third.
Starter Tyler Clapp (Junior / Glendive, MT) had one of his best starts on the season, going six inning, while only allowing four hits and two earned runs. He struck out three, and walked three in th loss. The final inning was pitched by Blake Smith (Sophomore / Minot, ND), who allowed one hit and a walk, while striking out two.
