Kid Cudi Cast In Face/Off Director’s Upcoming Thriller Silent Night
Actor and musician Kid Cudi joins the cast of John Woo's upcoming thriller, Silent Night. Despite being best known for his Grammy Award-winning music, Kid Cudi has generated a respectable acting résumé across both TV and the big screen, with notable performances in How to Make It in America, Westworld and the recent A24 horror film X. In comparison, Woo has been absent from American cinema for some time, with Silent Night marking the first Western movie for the acclaimed director in nearly two decades following his run of excellent "gun-fu" flicks throughout the 90s and early 2000s.
Per Deadline, Kid Cudi is the latest star to join the cast of Silent Night. Cudi, who will play Detective Dennis Vassel, joins previously announced stars Joel Kinnaman, Catalina Sandino Moreno and Harold Torres. Commenting on Cudi's casting, Silent Night producer Joe Gatta described Kid Cudi as "a powerful addition, and perfect complement, to this stellar cast." The movie is currently in production in Mexico City.
Although Kid Cudi has already demonstrated his incredible acting ability, Silent Night comes with its own set of challenges. The movie is said to be dialogue-free, relying largely on its soundtrack and its aesthetics to tell its revenge story. However, this is something that will surely come easy to Woo, with the acclaimed director known for his big and bold action set pieces in films such as Face/Off, Mission: Impossible II and Manhunt. With its cast stacking up nicely, Silent Night sounds like a movie fit for Woo's triumphant directorial return after a five year break.
