Aintree Grand National: This 14-1 shot looks great value bet for Colin Tizzard to bow out on a high
THE Grand National is fast approaching and many bookies are going non-runner-no bet so it’s worth throwing a couple of small each-way darts at big prices.
Several layers are already offering six places which gives us more of a chance.
FIDDLERONTHEROOF is an interesting contender at a general 25-1 – now into a best price 14s. He has run some big races at Grade 1 level, most notably when a solid second behind Monkfish in the Brown Advisory at Cheltenham 12 months ago.
The yard was out of sorts when he was third in Grade 1 Mildmay at this meeting last year and he has run three crackers since.
He showed his stamina up the Carlisle hill to score on comeback before going down half a length in the Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury – the race that will probably forever be known as the Hennessy.
You could argue he didn’t stay three miles at Ascot last time when settling for second behind Fortescue at Listed level. The ground was horrible that day and hopefully we’ll get better conditions at Aintree next month. The soft side of good is ideal.

Given what he’s achieved, 11st 3lb seems very fair for his first crack at the spruce fences. It has become a trend in recent years for horses to win the National without tackling the course before and he looks a fair price.
KILDISART catches the eye at 40-1 with William Hill, but 33s with a few others.
He should really have run in this race before but he’s been out just once since November 2020.
There was plenty of promise about his return in the Greatwood Gold Cup at Newbury earlier this month. He was fourth and ran on in his own time just like a horse that needs a much longer trip.
His finest hour came when second in the 2020 Ultima at Cheltenham when he was marked down as needing a real trip even then.
His weight of 10st 10lb looks just about perfect and he’s another first-timer over the track who can give us a good run.
