Twitter’s users have long been complaining about the lack of an ‘edit’ button but looks like Elon Musk has taken matters into his own hands after becoming the company’s biggest shareholder.

The option to edit a tweet after it being posted has been one of the most-requested features on the micro-blogging app.

Not being able to correct a minor typo is a definite downside of Twitter’s user experience.

Yesterday, the Tesla CEO highlighted this with a poll asking his 80 million followers if they’d want Twitter to have an ‘edit’ button and having the options spelled ‘yse’ and ‘no.

73.5% of respondents picked ‘yse’, indicating they’d like an ‘edit’ button for this exact reason to correct typos.

One Twitter user replied to the tweet saying they’d like an ‘edit’ feature if it was only available for a few minutes after posting the tweet and a link that shows when an edit is made.

‘This keeps a public record but allows the tweeter the ability to fix a simple mistake and not re-notify their followers with a new tweet,’ said Everyday Astronaut.

Twitter’s CEO Parag Agarwal quote tweeted Musk’s poll saying, ‘The consequences of this poll will be important. Please vote carefully,’

This could just be him taking a dig by quoting Musk verbatim on a previous poll were he asked his followers if Twitter rigorously adheres to the principle of free speech.

Twitter announced that it was working on an ‘edit’ button at the beginning of the month, except it was on April Fool’s day.

A Twitter product lead looking for input from the community on the one feature they wished Twitter had, pointed to the tweet as an ‘official statement’.

Yesterday it was revealed that Musk had bought a 9.2% stake in Twitter, potentially making him the biggest stakeholder in the social media platform.

So far it seems like everyone’s teasing the elusive feature that would make everyone’s lives easier. So, we’ll believe it when we see it.
