They were called over to an area near Swingate – between Dover and St Margaret’s Bay – after the alarm was raised yesterday evening.
The child was taken to a nearby hospital where they were pronounced dead. No further details about how the child died have been released by Kent Police.
HM Coastguard said it was searching for a child reported missing from Langdon Battery near Dover after receiving a call at around 5.50pm.
The child was found and then airlifted by the helicopter and handed into the care of the ambulance service.
A spokesman for Kent Police said the force was called to the scene along with HM Coastguard and South East Coast Ambulance Service.
He said: ‘A child was taken to a local hospital, where they were pronounced deceased. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.’
