Shoppers at Birmingham’s Bullring shopping centre evacuated after man suffers serious injuries near Selfridges

ONE of Britain’s busiest shopping centres has been evacuated after a man suffered “serious injuries” near to a Selfridges store.

Emergency services scrambled to Birmingham’s Bullring shopping centre at around 2.40pm this afternoon.

Customers were asked to leave part of the busy complex, although other shops remain open for business this evening.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said critical care paramedics dashed to the scene while police cordoned off the area outside several shops.

Paramedics discovered a male victim with serious injuries, who has since been rushed to Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment.

The nature of his injuries is not currently known.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received numerous 999 calls to the Bullring shopping centre in Birmingham at 2.38pm.

“An ambulance, two paramedic officers and a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic attended the scene.

“An off duty paramedic was also on scene.

“When crews arrived they found a man being cared for by Bullring staff who had sustained serious injuries.

“He was given trauma care by the team of ambulance staff before being conveyed on blue lights to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.”
