Shawn Sturgeon, 38, ‘kills wife Charlotte, 29, by running her over at Salt Lake City airport’ at end of trip
A MAN has been accused of killing his wife by running her over at Salt Lake City international airport just after the couple returned from vacation.
Shawn Christopher Sturgeon, 38, was arrested after he allegedly hit and killed his wife Charlotte Sturgeon, 29, with the couple’s SUV at the airport’s parking lot on Monday.
The Salt Lake City police told 2KUTV that the accident occurred on the second floor of the airport parking garage around 2:40pm.
After allegedly hitting his wife, Shawn drove himself and his wife to the airport garage payment booth to ask for help with his critically injured wife.
“Shortly after the crash, Sturgeon drove the vehicle, with his wife critically injured inside, to the airport parking payment booths where he asked for help,” Salt Lake City police said in a statement. “This incident occurred shortly after the couple returned to SLC from a vacation.”
Police haven’t released a possible motive for the accident, and they haven’t clarified if they believe Shawn hit his wife on purpose.
Paramedics were called to the garage and transferred Charlotte to the nearest hospital, where she later died.
“ICYMI: Police say a husband and wife had just returned from vacation when things turned deadly,” tweeted Jeremy Harris of 2KUTV news.
Shawn has been arrested under the suspicion of automobile homicide and criminal negligence DUI of alcohol/drugs and is currently in police custody.
He is being held at the Salt Lake County Metro Jail and is not illegible for bond at the time being.
USA News Today reports that it is unclear if Shawn has yet to hire an attorney to speak on his behalf.
“No further information on this case is being released,” Salt Lake City police told USA News Today.
