90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days fans already had a negative opinion of Ben Rathbun after season 5, but his actions at the Tell-All have caused viewers to label Ben misogynistic. Ben has been controversial among viewers, as the 52-year-old man is pursuing a relationship with 22-year-old Peruvian native Mahogany Roca, despite her asking him not to visit her. Now, 90 Day Fiancé viewers are labeling Ben’s creepy discussion before the Tell-All as troubling and misogynistic.
For many Before the 90 Days viewers, Ben has been a red flag from the start. The former pastor insisted that God wanted him to be with a woman three decades younger than him, even though she was not interested in having a relationship with him. Mahogany appeared visibly uncomfortable around Ben after she asked him to not board his flight to Peru to ambush her in person. Despite Mahogany making it clear that she was uncomfortable around Ben and only viewed him as a friend, he continued to pursue her. Ben then had a troubling conversation with fellow Americans Kimberly Menzies and Mike Berk in the studio before the Tell-All.
Many Before the 90 Days viewers were horrified that Ben referred to himself as a predator. “We as men are the predators. We are lions looking for gazelles,” Ben told Kimberly. Ben added that pursuing women is fun when it is a “race” because it’s “not fun” if women just “lay down.” He then blasted “aggressive” women such as Kimberly as being turn-offs. Reddit user Wise_Contribution883 shared a clip of Ben’s predator discussion online with the caption, "If you needed ANOTHER example of his horrible perception.. here you go. Basically affirming he's a predator." Many commenters were furious with Ben for his creepy comments about women. "So he’s saying women are weak and prey. This man needs major psychological help," one commenter wrote, while many echoed similar sentiments.
While many viewers were disturbed by Ben's conversation, fans thought that both he and Kimberly behaved badly during Before the 90 Days. "Note to Ben you're a predator and the gazelle that's 30 years younger played you for a fool. Kimberly [sic] you're also a predator and Soja Boy and [sic] Usman [sic] also played you for a fool," one commenter wrote. However, viewers were also angry with Ben for his lack of self-awareness and his misogynistic views on women. "Basically telling Kim she needs to 'act like a woman' or else Usman won’t want her. Yet he can run around chasing 22 yr olds and ignoring his family/kids. He’s trash," another commenter added. Many viewers voiced that Ben, who said he feels 25, was a danger to young women and that ladies should steer clear of dating him.
Though many Before the 90 Days season 5 cast members were slammed for their bad behavior, Ben is widely considered the most problematic cast member to be introduced into the franchise this season. Viewers were deeply disturbed to see how Ben relentlessly pursued Mahogany despite her clear discomfort, especially since he then bragged about his behavior to Kimberly and Mike. While Ben has already been fired from his day job, many 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days viewers are also hoping that Ben is let go from the 90 Day Fiancé franchise and doesn’t appear in future shows.
