Arrowverse's Gotham Knights Pilot To Start Filming Next Week

0

The Arrowverse will soon have another DC show in production, as The CW's Gotham Knights pilot starts filming next week. With pilot season getting into full swing, The CW is doing its annual tradition of adding yet another superhero property to their slate. While they have Batwoman already, the network is looking to launch another Batman-themed series, this time with Gotham Knights, which The CW began developing last fall. Envisioned as an ensemble drama, the Gotham Knights follows Bruce Wayne's adopted son uniting with the children of various Batman villains as they become the city's new, unexpected heroes. After they get framed for getting the Caped Crusader killed, they will have to clear their names while becoming the next generation of vigilantes.

Despite the involvement of Batwoman's Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux, and Natalie Abrams, The CW stresses that Gotham Knights will not be a spinoff series. The DC drama will also not be based on or tied in any way to the video game of the same name coming out later this year. Gotham Knights episode 1 will be directed by Gotham and Pennyworth director Danny Cannon, who has been teasing the show's visuals on social media. Since casting is close to being done, principal photography was expected to start very shortly.

Following the latest batch of casting news, Abrams, who is a co-executive producer on the series, shares the news that Gotham Knights will officially start filming next week. Unlike the other Arrowverse shows, Gotham Knights will actually be shooting in Toronto, Canada. Abrams, who co-wrote the pilot with Fiveash and Stoteraux, also posts about the long process behind the project's conception last summer. Check out both of the tweets from Abrams below:

While there may still be more casting news to come ahead of next week, Gotham Knights has assembled multiple actors already. The DC drama, if picked up to series by The CW, will star Oscar Morgan as Turner Hayes, Olivia Rose Keegan as Duela, Navia Robinson as Carrie Kelley, Tyler DiChiara as Cullen Bow, Fallon Smythe as Harper Row, and Misha Collins as Harvey Dent/Two-Face. The CW pilot also recently tapped two more series regulars, casting Rahart Adams cast as Brody and Anna Lore as Stephanie Brown.

Due to the fact that Gotham Knights' plot is based on Batman's death, it would appear the show is not taking place on Earth-Prime. If anything, this will be another series added to the larger Arrowverse Multiverse, if crossovers are something they want to do down the line. Since pilots usually have a longer production window, fans will most likely not learn if Gotham Knights will go to series until The CW's upfronts, which are set for May 19. As Gotham Knights commence filming next week, viewers will soon get a closer look at the potential DC drama.
