After a decade of blogging at Jo Cooks, Calgary's Joanna Cismaru has amassed a collection of recipes anyone can rely on to get an easy meal on the table. Back in 2016, she published an 80-recipe cookbook called 30-Minute One-Pot Meals. Now, it’s 200 dishes in The Big Book of Jo’s Quick and Easy Meals (Page Street/Canadian Manda Group, $45.50). She starts with her favourite, chicken, then moves on to beef (with a plug for Alberta steaks), followed by a tempting ensemble of pork dishes, five featuring the trusty pork chop. Sections on seafood, vegetarian dishes, pasta and casseroles follow, with each recipe accompanied by tips about substitutes and storage. Only a few ready-made ingredients are used, and any well-stocked supermarket would have everything called for in these recipes. Plus, she includes nutritional information for each dish.
