Unreal Engine 5 Video Game Chart Reveals Massive Amount Of Developers
A recent post from Geoff Keighley sheds some light on just how many developers are making use of Unreal Engine 5. While many video game fans may know about the immensely popular gaming engine from independent devs leveraging it to remake classic games like Ocarina of Time, it has been a major component in the development of several mainstream titles.
Since its reveal, Unreal Engine 5 has been exciting both gamers and developers alike thanks to its massive potential for creating advanced graphics in the interactive medium. This video games engine touts an impressive amount of options for developers looking to implement realistic lighting, crowds, geometry, and more into their upcoming titles. By comparison, Unreal Engine 5 is more accessible and reliable than other modern video game engines, even inspiring CD Projekt Red to choose it over their long-running, proprietary REDengine. While it is still early days for the latest version of this engine, tech demos like the viral Matrix Awakens showed off Unreal Engine 5's power and capacity to create life-like worlds.
A recent tweet from Geoff Keighley displays a collage of studios working on games in Unreal Engine 5. The list is sprawling, including industry leaders like Xbox Game Studios and PlayStation Studios, alongside beloved indie developers like Devolver Digital and 11 bit studios. It's unclear how comprehensive this list is, but it is likely to expand as Unreal Engine 5 becomes more ubiquitous in the games industry.
Based on this tweet, it seems like Unreal Engine 5 is going to have a massive hand in shaping this chapter of gaming history. While there are still other engines like Unity that are commonly used by AAA and indie developers, none of them seem to have the widespread appeal that Unreal Engine 5 has at the present moment. The newest Unreal Engine can make old games look better than some modern ones, so there will certainly be a lot of gamers anxiously waiting to get their hands on titles created through this system.
While tech demos for Unreal Engine 5 almost exclusively depict photorealistic art styles, it will be interesting to see how different developers approach visual design through the engine. Keighley's post includes developers like Double Fine and Gearbox Entertainment, both of which have implemented less realistic art styles to great effect in their games, so the degree to which this modern games engine impacts this design philosophy will remain to be seen. Game fans can be certain that, given the diverse array of developers working with Unreal Engine 5, there will be a number of unique and impressive titles released in the next few years.
