Jake Gyllenhaal Explains Why He Always Wanted To Be In A Michael Bay Movie

0

Ambulance star Jake Gyllenhaal speaks about why he has always wanted to play a part in a Michael Bay film. Ambulance is Bay's latest action flick to hit the big screen, and along with Gyllenhaal stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Eiza González. The movie, which is based upon the 2005 Danish film of the same name, tells the story of two robbers who are pursued after stealing an ambulance as a getaway vehicle when one of their heists goes horribly wrong. Ambulance is set to release in theaters on April 8th.

No matter one's opinion on Bay, it can't be denied that he is one of the most recognizable names in action filmmaking. From his total of five Transformers movies to his Bad Boys films, the director has certainly made a name for himself and his trademark style of directing. As many know, Bay is particularly known for pumping his movies full of chaotic action sequences which his fans have lovingly dubbed "Bayhem." As well as the "Bayhem," Bay films can generally be expected to contain very pro-America messages (particularly pro-military), a few scantily clad women, and, of course, many, many helicopters. While these trademarks can sometimes divide audiences, Bay has certainly managed to make more than a living off of them.

In a recent interview with People at the Los Angeles premiere of Ambulance, star Gyllenhaal admitted he always wanted to star in a Bay movie. Gyllenhaal has stated that he grew up in L.A. (where Ambulance is set), and as a young boy dreamed of car chases in the streets as depicted in Bay's action adventures. For Gyllenhaal, "fulfilling that" was like living out a dream. From an acting standpoint, Gyllenhaal has also pointed out that the exaggerated reality of a Bayhem filled movie "just allows for so much room for fun." See his full quote below:

"I've always had this sort of dream since I was younger to be in a Michael Bay [movie], and it's just fun to sort of play that out. To be in a city where I grew up, where you're a kid thinking about cars and car chases and stuff like that and to be fulfilling that. Being an action star in a movie, it just allows for so much room for fun and joking and absurdity."

Based on the trailers that have already been released for Ambulance, Gyllenhaal couldn't have picked a better Bay film to be a part of to fulfill his childhood dreams. Ambulance is essentially one long car chase through the streets of Los Angeles, and it certainly appears that Bay has pulled out all the stops for his first directorial effort in nearly three years. Trailers show a film packed with vehicle stunts, gun fights and Bay's trademark explosions, with Gyllenhaal living his dream in the middle of it all.

With only a few days left until Ambulance finally hits general theaters, it is certainly time for Bay fans to get excited. The trailers promise a thrill ride of Bay's highest standard, and if Gyllenhaal's excitement is anything to go by, this film is not to be missed by any Bay fan, or anyone who dreamed of car chases as a child. Knowing Gyllenhaal's fondness for Bay's work, this could be the start of a longtime partnership.
