Chainsaw Man Creator Returns With New 200 Page One Shot
Fans of Chainsaw Man have another reason to be excited, as a new 200 page one-shot from series creator Tatsuki Fujimoto was just announced. While Chainsaw Man's second part may still take some time to come back, another project is in the works. According to a recent post from the editor of the manga Shihei Lin, Fujimoto is set to release a 200-page one-shot issue of the manga on Monday, April 11, 2022.
Chainsaw Man follows the trials and tribulations of young Denji, an otherwise normal teenager forced to pay the debts of his deceased father as a devil hunter. When Denji is killed in serving those debts, he is saved by his pet Pochito, a supernatural being known as a devil, who in a prior incarnation was known as the Chainsaw Man, the most feared of all devils. Pochito transforms himself and becomes Denji's heart. Once combined, the Chainsaw Man is reborn as Denji's alter-ego. Found out to be in possession of the Chainsaw Man, Denji attracts the attention of Public Safety Devil Hunter Makima, another devil who desires to partner with the Chainsaw Man. The series instantly garnered instant acclaim upon release. While fans may await the series' continuation, they can whet their appetite with a new one-shot from the series' creator.
In a tweet but Chainsaw Man editor Shihei Lin, a new 200 page one-shot by Fujimoto was announced. The one-shot releasing on April 11th will be made available by the manga's publisher Shueisha via its website and Shonen Jump+ app. No word has been given yet on the possibility of an English translation, though given the popularity of Chainsaw Man and the fact that Fujimoto's last one-shot, Look Back, was translated, chances for an official English release are good.
In his tweet, Lin did not provide many details about the content of the issue, but given that it's a one-shot, it's unlikely to have anything to do with Chainsaw Man. Fujimoto's last manga project was a 140-page one-shot manga titled Look Back. That manga tells the story of the relationship between two young girls who dream of one-day becoming manga artists. It is widely believed to be Fujimoto's elegy to the victims of the 2019 Kyoto Animation Studio arson attack in which 36 creators and staff of the studio lost their lives. Despite how different it was from Fujimoto's most famous works Chainsaw Man and Fire Punch, Look Back was incredibly well received by fans and critics alike.
No matter what this new one-shot is actually about, it's certain that it'll contain Fujimoto's trademark off-beat sensibility. There is no other manga like Chainsaw Man and no other mangaka like Fujimoto, and fans can look forward to more off-the-wall stories from the enigmatic creator when his new one-shot drops on the 11th.
