Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles Softball Travels to Bluefield College

Bluefield, VA: On March 30th the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles (3-21) journeyed to Virginia to face the Bluefield College Rams (7-14) in a doubleheader. The hosts would come away with 2 wins.

The hometown club would score 2 late to pull out the victory.

The Lady Eagles came out strong, as they scored runs in each of the first three innings. In the first, Ellie Keene (C) drove in 1 with a single (1-0).

In the second, an error produced a run (2-0), while in the third, Keene struck again with another RBI single (3-0).

After going hitless through three innings, Bluefield struck in the fourth. In that inning, 2 ALC errors and 2 Rams singles produced 3 runs to tie the contest (3-3).

The home club broke the tie in the sixth when they produced 3 singles to gain 2 more runs (5-3).

In the final inning, after the first two Lady Eagles runners popped out, the squad promptly loaded the bases. Unfortunately, with the tying run on second, the final batter grounded out to the pitcher to end the contest.

Keene, Alexis Morris (1B), and Launa Ratcliff (LF) each had 2 hits, while Keene had 2 RBIs.

Carlee Muncy started on the mound as she went four innings. She allowed 2 hits and 3 runs while striking out 2. Mckenzie Brewer took the loss in relief. She allowed 4 hits and 2 runs over the final two innings.

The Lady Eagles outhit Bluefield 9-6 but committed 3 costly errors.

Bluefield earned the sweep with a big fourth inning as ALC was shut out in game two.

BC scored first in the second as an error produced a run (1-0). In the meantime, the Kentucky ladies only registered 1 hit through 4 innings of play.

The Lady Rams then came up huge in the bottom of the fourth as 2 singles and 2 doubles led to 4 runs (5-0).

ALC started the fifth well as the first two batters singled. However, the hits did not produce any runs.  BC then struck in the sixth as 2 doubles led to 2 more runs (7-0).

In their final at-bat, a one-out single from Keene gave brief hope, but the next two batters grounded out to end the contest.

For the Caney Creek crew, the hits were tough to come by as they finished with just 4 singles (Keene, Adkins, Muncy, Baylee Cox (DP))

Pitcher Maleigh McDaniel took the tough loss on the mound, allowing 6 hits and 5 runs, with 2 K’s.

ALC was outhit (9-4) and both clubs committed 1 error.
