Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles Softball Travels to Midway University
Midway, KY: On March 29th the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles (3-19) journeyed to central Kentucky to face the powerful Midway University Eagles (19-4) in a doubleheader. The MU ladies would come away with 2 solid wins.
March 29th
GAME ONE
MU-14; Alice Lloyd-0
The hometown Eagles scored early and often to take the opener in five innings.
The hosts got out strong, utilizing a big two-run blast and a two-run triple in the first inning to score 6 (6-0).
ALC looked to produce in the second as they used 2 singles to load the bases. Unfortunately, a groundout ended the inning with no damage.
Over the next two innings, Midway continued their pattern, using extra-base hits (including another homer) to produce 2 runs each inning (10-0). MU then added to their lead in the fourth, when a triple and double helped push home 4 more scores (14-0).
ALC played hard but was unable to produce any more hits after the second inning.
Alexis Morris (1B), Maleigh McDaniel (3B), and Carlee Muncy (C) each had a single.
Haley Howell had a tough outing on the mound as she was one of three pitchers for the Caney Creek club.
The Lady Eagles were outhit 16-3 and committed 2 errors.

The Lady Eagles struck first, but a huge third inning by the Midway squad proved the deciding factor.
ALC started beautifully as the first three batters all connected. When Morris smashed a double, it produced the game’s first run (1-0).
MU would get a lone single in their half of the inning and use two grounders to knot the score (1-1).
In the second, Alice Lloyd would stroke two more singles but did not produce any runs. However, they played well and put the host Eagles down quickly in the same inning.
After ALC went down in order in the top of the third, MU opened the floodgates. The hosts would use 5 hits and an error to produce in a major way. When the inning finally came to an end, Midway suddenly led 10-1.
The fourth would see each squad gain a single, but no runs would score.
In the fifth, ALC would produce 2 singles and earn 1 run (10-2). Unfortunately, the final runner was thrown out at third, trying to be aggressive, which ended the contest.
For the Caney Creek crew, Launa Ratcliff (LF) and Morris each laced 2 hits. Morris had 1 double and joined Adkins with 1RBI apiece.
Pitcher Bailee Cox took the tough loss on the mound.
ALC actually tied Midway in the hit’s column (8-8) and errors column (1-1). The difference in the contest was they were unable to string together consecutive hits when they most desperately needed them.
