Avatar 2 & James Cameron's Genius Hyped By Michelle Yeoh

0

Michelle Yeoh discusses her role in Avatar 2 and working with director James Cameron. Avatar 2, the long-awaited follow-up to Cameron's 2009 smash hit, is set to release in theaters this December after a considerable number of delays. The original film was seen as revolutionary and ground-breaking for the filmmaking world, and it would come to be known as the highest-grossing movie of all time.

As of now, not a whole lot is known about the plot of Avatar 2. However, its main characters, Jake Sully (played by Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (played by Zoe Saldaña), will now have a family of their own, which will play a major role. It is believed that human beings will return to the world of Pandora to finish what they started in the first film, forcing Jake and Neytiri's family to leave their home and seek out a new one. Additionally, all of the Avatar sequels will explore different, never-before-seen locations on this wondrous moon, along with new cultures and creatures.

During an interview with EW, Yeoh—who was cast in the Avatar sequels back in April of 2019—spoke a little bit about her character,  Dr. Karina Mogue, and praised Cameron for his work and his genius. She also revealed that her work in the sequels so far lasted for a few weeks. Read Yeoh's full quote below:

So, yes, I am in the Avatar sequels and as you know we can't really talk very much about it. But it's James Cameron! Come on! I would be the tea lady for James Cameron! We shot for a few weeks, and I was so impressed with the work that he's done, the work that he's doing, the energy. He's a genius, he's a walking genius. And I really really enjoyed the experience and I can't wait to go back soon, I hope.

Yeoh is one of a few well-known actors to be joining the blockbuster franchise. Alongside her will be Cameron veteran Kate Winslet, whose Na'vi character Ronal allowed the actress to work with motion capture for the first time, and Vin Diesel, whose character is not yet known. Winslet's participation in Avatar 2 is actually a pretty big deal—while filming her underwater scenes a few years back, she broke Tom Cruise's record for the longest time with breath held: over seven minutes.

While Yeoh's quote doesn't give much more information about her character or the larger movie as a whole, it's interesting to hear she filmed for only a few weeks, suggesting Dr. Mogue might play a smaller role in the film, at least in terms of screen time. It's encouraging to see a seasoned actress like Yeoh so excited about an upcoming project. Her high praise for Cameron is the most recent sign of many that the upcoming Avatar 2 and its sequels will be yet another huge success for him. Plus, the fact that Yeoh is sworn to secrecy will only build up more anticipation and eagerness from moviegoers.
