Guardians’ Steven Kwan’s incredible 116-pitch streak of 0 swings-and-misses is over

0

If you haven’t been adding Steven Kwan to your player prop parlays, my only question is what are you waiting for?

Through five games of the season entering Wednesday, the Cleveland Guardians rookie was 10-of-15 at the plate for a .667 average. A bet on him to simply record a hit or total base in any of those five games would’ve resulted in a win.

Even more impressive, Kwan didn’t have a single swing and miss through 116 pitches (116!) until his first strikeout of the season in Wednesday’s game against the Reds. And even that miss was a foul tip (which apparently counts as a swing and miss. Don’t ask).

It’s the longest such streak for a player to start his career since at least 2000.

Simply put, Kwan sees the ball extremely well. He also had seven walks through his first five games, showing the discipline to take pitches when a hit wasn’t there to be had. In the second inning of Wednesday’s game, with the bases loaded, he forced his eighth walk of the season to drive in a run.

And just in case you think this early-season streak is a fluke, I wouldn’t be so sure. Kwan didn’t strike out once in 32 at-bats during Spring Training, where he hit .469.
