A day after he allegedly let off two smoke bombs before opening fire on New York City commuters Tuesday morning, 62-year-old suspect Frank Robert James was nabbed by officers in Manhattan on Wednesday afternoon.

James was cuffed by officers patrolling the East Village after a sharp-eyed witness spotted him in a McDonald’s and called Crime Stoppers. Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell said James was “taken into custody without incident.” The 62-year-old has been charged with several crimes, including terrorism against a mass transit system, and will be arraigned in Brooklyn federal court. He faces life in prison.

“My fellow New Yorkers: We got him,” New York City Mayor Eric Adams said during a Wednesday press conference. “...Thirty-three shots but less than 30 hours later I’m able to say, we got him.”
